Peace and Hope Begin With Education: One Child At A Time

Central Asia Institute’s Domestic Education Program was established to promote awareness of the importance of primary education, literacy, and cross-cultural understanding about the remote regions of northern Pakistan and Afghanistan. We do this through public events, global outreach and in the USA, our books “Three Cups of Tea” and “Stones into Schools”, and our “Pennies for Peace Program.”

“Promoting Peace and Building Nations, One School, One Child At A Time”

Since a 1993 climb on Pakistan’s treacherous K2 (world’s second highest mountain and considered most dangerous to climb), Mortenson has dedicated 15 years to establish girl’s schools in remote regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan. In 16 years, Mortenson has become an expert in a region that few people know about – but one that is now front and center on the world arena and the war on terror. Through his unique perspective of the region’s culture, history, geo-politics and mostly development aspects, Mortenson shares insightful commentary and stunning photography about his extraordinary journey of a decade long effort to promote girl’s education.

Mortenson has spoken at over 1,100 venues, and presently receives over 2,000 speaking requests per year. These places include the Pentagon, Capitol Hill, think tanks, Universities, schools, churches, synagogues, mosques, women’s groups, outdoor, business and civic groups.

Due to his lengthy travels overseas and extended travel schedule, the opportunities to accommodate Mortenson’s appearances are limited. If Mortenson is able to appear at a given venue, an honorarium to Central Asia Institute and specific guidelines must be agreed to in advance by the host. Please note that Mortenson’s appearances are often scheduled up to a year in advance.

A book signing of “Three Cups of Tea” and “Stones into Schools” is normally included with each of Mortenson’s appearances.
